SINO-II CONTRACEPTIVE IMPLANT REGISTERED
DKT/E completed the registration of Sino II Implant on March 5, 2012, along with its delivery device, Trocar.
The Food, Medicine and Health Care Administration and Control Authority of Ethiopia (FMHCACA) awarded DKT/E the registration certificates; the implant is now is available for social marketing in all authorized pharmaceutical and clinical retail outlets.
Sino-Implant (II) is a set of two flexible cylindrical implants, consisting of a dimethylsiloxane/methylvinylsiloxane copolymer core enclosed in thin-walled, silicone tubing. Each implant contains 75 mg of the progestin levonorgestrel. Implants are sealed with polydimethylsiloxane adhesive and sterilized and are approximately 2.5 mm in diameter and 43 mm in length. They are effective up to three years.
Trained health professionals insert the implants in the superficial plane beneath the skin of the upper arm using Trocar.
