DKT/E PROVIDES REFRESHER TRAINING FOR DRIVERS
Addis Ababa, 02 January 2014
Studies indicates that at least 1.2 million people die every year in road accidents, with low- and middle-income countries accounting for 90 percent of these deaths, despite having only 48 percent of the world's vehicles (WHO).
In Ethiopia, over 2,500 road users were killed in 2010. Police records indicate that three-fourths of road fatalities from 2003 – 2007 were the result of driver error and another 6% due to vehicle defects.
DKT Ethiopia (DKT/E), a leading supplier of condoms and family planning commodities in the country, is taking a proactive stance to ensure that its fleet of 75 vehicles operates to the highest safety standards.
A recent 2-day refresher training held in Addis Ababa for DKT/E’s drivers confirms this point. The training, which brought together DKT/E’s 57 drivers, covered a range of topics, including new technologies, road safety, vehicle maintenance, and emergency procedures.
Ato Messele Abebe , DKT/E’s Head of Logistics and Liaison, commented about the critical need for DKT/E’s drivers to pay attention to safety.
"…You drivers are the backbone of DKT Ethiopia...As you all know in our country, car accidents are a leading cause of death. In order to combat such a life risk, you have a responsibility to be prepared and attentive."
